Candidates for Election!

PRESIDENT CANDIDATES:

PENNY SEELYE-SWEET: Penny has served as the Examining & Licensing committee, Vice-President, President for 8 years for the newly formed Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick, and again as President 2018-2021.  She has been part of the executive board for 12 years providing experience and knowledge on governance issues.  Penny started in the industry in the 1980s. 

PAUL OUELLETTE:  Paul has been a hairstylist for 34 years and has been part of the CANB as the Chairperson for the Examining and Licensing committee for nearly 10 years.  Paul is currently the Vice President.  He has been a board member since 2007.

VICE PRESIDENT CANDIDATES:

COLLEEN JONES-MCLEOD:  Colleen has been a member of the CANB since 1998.  She is currently the Chairperson for the Examining and Licensing committee.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS CANDIDATES:

GISELE FOUGERE:  Gisele has been an aesthetician for 38 years.  She currently holds a proprietor’s license, mobile and instructors license!  Gisele previously was an examiner for the CANB  for 8 Years.  She held a teaching position for 9 years with Medes. Gisele has also been involved with Skills competitions for approximately 15 years, provincially, nationally, and globally.  She is a member of the Worlds Expert Faculty.

GISELE PYNE:  Gisele is an active member of the CANB currently holding the treasurer position, board of director position, and Chairperson for the HR & Governance Committee.  She has been in the industry for 40 years and has served the secretary position for the CANB for many years.  Along with her instructor's license, Gisele owned the Grand Falls Academy of Esthetics for 20 years. 

MELISSA HARRISON:  Melissa is a licensed aesthetician since 2006, with experience in the business since 2001.  Melissa has owned her salon since May of 2020.  She continues to upgrade her education including advanced skin care techniques, lash extensions and lifts, dermaplaning and laser.  She has also traveled to large-scale trade shows such as IECSC Las Vegas to keep informed on the most up-to-date advances in the industry.  Melissa has mentored many new aestheticians to help build their confidence and skill.  She also offers workshops to help other advance their skills.

MELISSA PARENT:  Melissa graduated in 2012 from Jon Raymond.  She worked for Raymond himself at his spa following the completion of her course.  After 8 years in the industry, she went on her own.  She is extremely passionate about the safety of our clients.  It is important for her to bring changes to make the industry better.  She feels that with the help of the association we can make a difference.  She plans to open her own salon in September, so she is very familiar with the By-Laws.  She loves that there are By-Laws, Policies, and an Act to help protect the CANB members.

ASHLEY MCDAVID:  Ashley is a dual salon owner.  She holds a lash & brow license and has worked doing lashes since 2014 and became an aesthetician in 2018.  She has worked at various salons throughout the years.  Ashley is also a member of the Examining and Licensing committee.

RANDI MCKNIGHT:  Randi is a licensed hairstylist (2009) and salon owner (2014).    She started in a solo suite rental and purchased a salon with a mix of renters and employees in 2018.  She has also educated for companies and traveled all over Canada and the US for courses.  Randi is a master colorist.  She took Business Administration prior to Cosmetology.  Randi owns an Aveda Concept Salon.

COLLEEN JONES-MCLEOD:  Colleen has been a member of the CANB since 1998.  She is currently the Chairperson for the Examining and Licensing committee. 

DOUGLAS BLACK: Doug took the cosmetology course under the guidance of Ms. Colleen Foster at N.B.C.C.S.J and graduated in 1988.  He became a certified hairstylist with the N.B.H.A in 1989.  Doug has been a trainer and platform artist for Clairol & Pidea in Montreal and Nb.  He was a volunteer on the AIDS Saint John board where he was president for 5 years.  He also has been a volunteer board member for Hospice Saint John as well as a grief recovery facilitator & has done palliative care work.  Doug became a board member of the CANB in 1998-2000, chairperson of Education 2000-2002, Vice President 2002-2006, President 2006-2018, and past president for 3 years.  During his time as president, Gaye and himself attended lawyer meetings, court appearances, meetings with MLA’s, (all pertaining to the separation of the Barbers from our association), changes to our own legislation as well as regular duties pertaining to our association.  He looks forward to continuing to represent our membership & ask for your support by way of your vote.

NORMA BRINE: Norma has been in the industry for 48 years.  She has been involved with the CANB for around 20 years as an inspector, examiner, board of directors,s, and treasurer.  Norma is still actively working in the industry.

CYNTHIA GOOD-CORMIER: Cynthia has previously spent one term with the Board of Directors and 3 terms on the examining and licensing committee.  She has been in the industry for 33 years as an aesthetician and hairstylist.  With her knowledge and experience, she will do everything in her power to help our industry Improve in any which way she can to make it better for all of you and your clients.  

TREASURER:

Notice to members: The deadline to present a discussion for the 2021 Virtual AGM is October 14, 2021. Please have your statement in prior to that date.

PROPOSED “Notice of Motions” – must be received at the CANB office no later than August 18th, 2021

By-law 2.8 “All motions affecting the by-laws of the Association shall be filed with the Executive Director at least sixty (60) days prior to the annual meeting of the association.”



ELECTION FOR EXECUTIVE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND (3) Board members

NOMINATING COMMITTEE:

Any person wishing to be a candidate to serve as a member of the Executive Board or a Board of Directors shall submit an application for candidacy to the Nominating Committee Chairperson, Kelsey Flowers by email officemanager@canb.ca  no later than OCTOBER 1ST, 2021 @ 4:30 p.m.

Candidates applying for Executive Board members must have served on the Board of Directors for a three-year term. (By-law 2.1)

The list of candidates will be posted on our website and available to the members before or at the annual meeting. Candidates will be asked to submit a brief written or virtual bio. Only members who have submitted their application for candidacy to the nominating committee, by the required deadline and who hold valid CANB license shall be considered a candidate.  The Election will be conducted by the Nominating Chairperson, at the Virtual AGM on October 17, 2021.
