Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick – Special Meeting

As you know, the Cosmetology Association of New Brunswick (the “Association”) held its Annual General Meeting on June 2, 2025. At the AGM, two members were elected to sit on the Board of Directors of the Association. This was a mistake and, instead, all three members who had their names stand for election should have been acclaimed.

Unfortunately, the AGM meeting package also called for the election of only two seats on the Board when it should have referred to three seats of the Board.

Following the AGM, and after reviewing the Cosmetology Act and the By-laws of the Association, it was determined that there were only eight Directors on the Board even including those two new members who had been elected at the AGM.

The Act requires that the Board have nine Directors. This means that the Association must call a special meeting to hold a re-election for the three seats on the Board of Directors that were vacant at the AGM. The prior election results do not stand and the whole process of election must be restarted.

The special meeting will be for the sole purpose of electing three members to the Board of Directors. No other items can be dealt with at this meeting.

You will find enclosed the Notice of Special Meeting which will take place on August 11, 2025, at 9:00AM. The meeting will be held virtually. The instructions to register for the meeting are contained in the enclosed Notice.

If you would like your name to stand for election to the Board of Directors, please complete a nomination form which is available online at https://form.jotform.com/251185834261255 by no later than July 25, 2025. Please ensure that the Registrar acknowledges receipt of your nomination form to ensure that your name is included in the election.

If you previously submitted your name to stand for election at the AGM, please re-submit your nomination form to confirm that you would still like your name to stand for election at the special meeting.

Members are asked to continue sending their questions and concerns to the Association. We want to assure members that their concerns are being investigated by the Association. As you know, the Association has had to deal with a lot of changes recently and we appreciate the patience of the members as we work through this transition period.

We apologize for this mistake and any confusion that it has caused. We thank the membership for working with us to move the Association forward.

Sincerely,

I’m a licensed instructor and aesthetician with 14 years of experience in this amazing industry. I started out working in Aveda spas and salons, where I fell in love with helping clients feel their best and building meaningful connections. Over time, I discovered a passion for teaching and mentoring, which led me to become an instructor, guiding and inspiring the next generation of beauty professionals has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.

Alongside my work in aesthetics and education, I’ve also built a thriving bridal makeup business, which has allowed me to bring creativity and confidence to clients on their most special days. I’m excited about the opportunity to bring my experience, positivity, and fresh perspective to the CANB board, and to be part of shaping the future of our industry together.

I am passionate about the growth and professionalism of the beauty industry in New Brunswick, and I believe the CANB plays a vital role in supporting and advocating for its members. Throughout my career as an aesthetician, instructor, and business owner, I have seen how important it is for professionals to have a strong voice, clear standards, and opportunities for ongoing development.

Serving on the board is an opportunity for me to give back to the industry that has given me so much. I bring years of experience working in salons and spas, mentoring and teaching future professionals, and running my own bridal makeup business. These roles have helped me develop strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills that I believe will benefit the association and its members.

My goal as a board member would be to listen to the needs and concerns of our members, contribute ideas to strengthen our profession, and help ensure that CANB continues to set and uphold high standards while supporting members in achieving their goals. I am committed to working collaboratively with other board members to help advance the mission of the association and represent the diverse voices of our industry.

In addition to my hands-on work with clients, I am committed to lifelong learning and staying current with industry trends, techniques, and health and safety standards. Serving on the board of the Association of Cosmetology is an opportunity I am deeply interested in because it aligns with my passion for the beauty industry, commitment to professional growth, and desire to contribute to the future of cosmetology. The beauty industry is constantly evolving, and being part of a board that helps shape policy, education, and standards allows me to take an active role in that evolution. I believe that professionals within the field should have a voice in decisions that impact licensing, ongoing education, innovation, and the ethical standards we uphold—and I want to be one of those voices.

My interest also stems from a strong desire to support and uplift fellow cosmetologists. As someone who has experienced the challenges and rewards of working in this field, I understand the importance of mentorship, advocacy, and professional unity. By serving on the board, I can help address the real needs of cosmetologists, from promoting better training programs to ensuring fair business practices.

Furthermore, I am eager to contribute ideas that reflect current trends and the growing diversity of the industry. I have been a cosmetologist since 2011. I am very involved in the community, and organize a non-profit organization that helps fund two different local charities every summer. I love the beauty industry and look forward to enhancing our Cosmetology Association with the help of our members. Thank you for trusting me to help lead our association forward.

I have been an active member for 14 years and have a lot of ideas that would help the association and it's members continue and strengthen as a whole. With my prior experience working on a committee I have no issues working with others opinions to make sure everyone feels heard, and making tough decisions to enhance our culture as cosmetologists.

I have been a certified hairstylist since 1988, a certified instructor since 1999. I have volunteered on various committees, and headed up the Education Committee. I've been vice president and was president for 15 years. I have a great passion for cosmetology, I enjoy doing team work, sharing ideas & watching our ever changing industry embrace the changes & challenges that are part of our jobs. I look forward to representing all our members.

Our industry is ever changing & recently with change there has been some unrest within the membership. I wish to say that I believe in equal rights for all of our members, as our membership covers a broad scope of persons with concerns that need to be represented fairly. I feel that all board members should be clear & compassionate in the work that they do for all members of the CANB. Anyone with ill feeling for any group regarding their back ground or lifestyle should not be a represenative of the membership as all deserve fair & equal representation for all members. I believe in team work & would like to offer my time & services to assist the board, committees, & volunteers to achive these goals.

With over a decade of experience in the beauty industry, I am the proud owner of multiple beauty supply stores across Canada. My journey began with a passion for nails and grew into a mission to support professionals at every stage
from student to seasoned artist. I’ve built my business by championing safety, innovation, and education, maintaining strong relationships with some of the top brands in the nail industry to ensure the products I carry meet the highest standards.

Beyond retail, I’ve become a resource and support system for countless beauty students and recent graduates who often feel lost after school. I listen to their concerns, share their frustrations, and work hard to provide them with tools, knowledge, and confidence. I believe our industry needs stronger ties between schools, professionals, and governing bodies like CANB and I’m ready to help build them.

I’m outspoken when it matters, collaborative by nature, and fiercely dedicated to creating a more supportive, inclusive, and forward thinking cosmetology community. I don’t just want to sit on a board I want to help steer it toward meaningful, necessary change.

The cosmetology industry is evolving, and I believe it’s time our support systems evolve with it. One area I’m deeply passionate about is the gap between cosmetology school training and real-world readiness. Too often, I meet students who leave school without completing essential modules like disinfection, a basic yet critical standard. That’s not just concerning it’s dangerous.

As the owner of multiple beauty supply stores, I’m on the front lines every day. I hear the frustrations and fears of new graduates who feel underprepared, uncertain, and unsupported. I’ve built strong relationships with leading nail brands that prioritize safety, innovation, and education and I bring that same commitment to everything I do.

If appointed to the CANB board, my mission is to help bridge the gap between students, schools, and the industry. I want to foster a stronger, more supportive connection between learners and the association, ensuring that our future professionals not only meet industry standards but feel truly empowered.

Change starts with us. I’m ready to be part of it.

With over 30 years in the beauty industry, my journey has taken me from London, U.K. to Ontario, and now to New Brunswick each stop adding to my perspective and passion for this profession. I hold licenses in both Ontario and New Brunswick and have worked within each province's distinct regulatory systems. That experience has given me a well rounded understanding of how we can better support and elevate beauty professionals across New Brunswick.

Today, I own and operate MDM Curl Studio in Dieppe, a space dedicated to curly and textured hair. Our studio is known for being welcoming, inclusive, and affirming especially for the LGBTQ+ and POC communities. I believe our industry is at its best when it reflects the diversity of the people we serve and creates space for every stylist and client to feel seen and valued.

As a business owner, I take pride in aligning with CANB's professional standards, and I believe strongly in accountability, ethics, and advocating for safe, high quality service across the industry. I'm also passionate about mentorship, education, and helping fellow stylists feel confident and supported in their craft.

If elected to the CANB board, I'll bring experience, integrity, and heart to the table. I care deeply about our industry and the people in it, and I'm committed to working collaboratively to build a stronger, more inclusive future for all beauty professionals in New Brunswick.

I’ve been working in the beauty industry for over 30 years, starting in London, UK, continuing across Ontario and now in New Brunswick. I hold Ontario and NB licenses and have experienced how different provincial systems run. This gives me a broader perspective on how we can support professionals here in New Brunswick.

I now operate MDM Curl Studio in Dieppe, where we specialize in curly/ textured hair. Our space is known for being welcoming and inclusive for all, especially for the LGBTQ+ and POC communities. I believe encouraging diversity in our industry through a safe, affirming environment makes us all stronger.

As a salon owner, I take pride in running my business in alignment with CANB’s professional standards. I believe strongly in accountability, and in upholding the regulations that keep our industry safe, ethical, and respected.

I care deeply about mentorship, community, and making sure every stylist feels supported. I’d love the chance to bring my experience, perspective, and heart to the CANB board, and help us grow together.
